How Pip teaches

The answer is earned, one small step at a time

Here is a grade 2 child meeting 9 + 7 for the first time.

1. The try. A wrong answer gets a smaller question, not the answer.

2. The hint. Pip points at the next step and waits. Hints never cost a problem.

3. The win. A right answer is named for what it was, and the next problem is theirs alone. Truly stuck? Pip walks it through with them, then sets a similar one.

Built on the curriculum

Their curriculum, built in

Sparkpip is built on the published curricula of eight Canadian provinces, Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, organized by grade and, from grade 10, by course, with more curricula on the way. Practice follows what their class is learning, in the same words their report card uses, with nearly 500 named methods and more than 6,000 practice problems behind it.

The first group is the language of the provincial curricula themselves. The second is what every curriculum leans on but does not list. That is where Pip goes further.

For parents

You stay in the loop, not in the way

Your child gets their own screen and their own Pip. You get the grown-ups' side, behind your PIN. Nothing your child says to Pip is stored on our servers.

Why I built Sparkpip

I built Sparkpip as a parent, not as a company. My daughter was falling behind. Tutoring centres were expensive, asked for a commitment of months, and taught their way rather than hers. The online programs I tried did not follow what her class was learning.

So I spent nights and weekends building the tutor I wanted for her: one that follows her curriculum, teaches the way she actually learns, and tells me every week how she is doing, for a fraction of what a centre costs.

She uses it every school night, and she is doing great now. I built it for her, and for every parent who has watched their child struggle and not known where to turn.
